Green Surgical Drape Nr. 17

In medicine, people often act pragmatically to save time. Surgical drapes are therefore very popular as a neutral background in photographs. These are usually green or blue. The green color of the surgical drape contrasts with the very brightly lit and predominantly red surgical area. This color contrast helps prevent the surgeon’s eyes from straining.

Spots on an otherwise homogeneous background can distract from the object and provoke additional associations with the circumstances of the photo. «Unclean» backgrounds can not only arouse disgust in the viewer but can also provoke negative conclusions about the working methods/ethics of the photographer or the scientist.
